About Aleksandra Debowski
I received my BSc(Hons) in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (minor in Chemistry) from Simon Fraser University, Canada. I then completed PhD studies at the University of Western Australia under the supervision of Professor Barry Marshall, Dr Mohammed Benghezal and Dr Alma Fulurija. I received an NHMRC Peter Doherty Biomedical Early Career Fellowship to pursue investigations into Helicobacter pylori pathogenesis and persistence mechanisms to better understand host-pathogen interactions and to find alternative therapies for this chronic infection and to overcome the problem of increasing antibiotic resistance. I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Molecular Sciences at the University of Western Australia. I have a strong interest in different bacterial pathogens, developing genetic tools and using various molecular techniques in a multidisciplinary approach to understand bacterial virulence mechanisms.
