About Alessandro Gemini

Young surgeon really determined to develop HPB and digestive surgery. Ambitious, positive, careful to details, human and empathetic with patients. I started my path in Medicine and Surgery in 2010 at Cagliari University. I studied 1 year abroad in Poland (Wroclaw Medical University – English Division) thank to “ERASMUS +” program. In july 2016 I finished my medical studies with a thesis about a comparison between laparoscopic and robotic approach for colonic resections. In august 2016, I started my belgian experience in a Paediatric Surgery department (Universitair Kinderziekenhuis Koningin Fabiola) and then at Erasme Hospital in the Digestive Surgery Département. In December 2017 I started my Master of specialization in General Surgery at Padua University Hospital. I have spent 18 months of my formation doing a residency in Digestive Surgery at Erasme Hospital. In January 2023 I've obteined my diploma of specialization in General Surgery with a bicentric retrospective international analysis about low rectal cancer with synchronous liver metastases. After 6 months as visitor and intensive study of Dutch, I completed a 2 years fellowship in HPB and digestive surgery at UZ Leuven. Currently I am HPB surgery fellow at UZ Brussel. I speak fluently Italian (C2), English (C1), French (C1) and I’ve an intermediate level in Dutch (B1). Apart from medical studies, I’ve always loved reading and sports. I’ve been part of the Italian National Sailing team from 2007 to 2009. As director and tactician of my team, we’ve been 420 Italian champions in 2007 and 2009, we took a bronze medal in 420 under19 World Championship in 2007 and a silver medal in Melges 24 Corinthian World Championship in 2012.
