About Alex Kirkup

I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Guelph, working toward a career in medicine. I’m drawn to research because it gives me a deeper understanding of the science behind patient care, and I see it as essential to becoming the kind of doctor I want to be—curious, evidence-driven, and constantly learning. I've worked in both academic and clinical research settings, contributing to studies on colostrum, neonatal immunity, and maternal health. These experiences have taught me how to think critically, analyze data, and communicate scientific ideas clearly. I’ve also been involved in coauthoring abstracts and leading my own independent projects. Outside of research, I’ve volunteered in hospitals, clinics, and community organizations, where I’ve learned how to build trust, listen carefully, and support people in vulnerable moments. Whether I’m tutoring students, mentoring youth, or supporting blood donors, I try to bring the same focus and respect that I hope to carry into medicine. I’m always looking for opportunities to grow—especially those that connect science, people, and impact.
