Background
About Alix Potter
I am a diligent and dedicated Master of Architecture graduate passionate about the conservation, preservation, and promotion of heritage architecture. I have experience in archival research for the reproduction of architectural drawings of a destroyed historic site in the Scenic Rim Region of Queensland. I am particularly interested in the significance of historic sites as forming an intrinsic part of a culture or community’s national heritage. I have continually shown great competency in time management and teamwork skills throughout my university career. I also have experience in skills involving both effective verbal and written communication. This was gained through participation in projects requiring consultation with working architects, clients, and other various stakeholders to raise awareness of the social importance of heritage architecture. Moving forward, I am looking to gain a position in heritage management that allows me to fulfill my passions of preserving and restoring cultural heritage architecture. recognition of the significance of historic sites as forming an intrinsic part of a culture or community’s national heritage is imperative to their preservation. Once architecture of historical importance is destroyed, the significance of that physical space is lost. The architecture holds tangible evidence of the technical record and development of style, as well as irreplaceable social, cultural, and environmental importance. Defining culture as a set of common values indicates that the value of architectural heritage sites is linked not only to past identity, but to future social stability. Cultural values represent an essential part of any community, evidencing a deep association between individuals and places that goes beyond objective historic value.
