About Allen Kay

I started working in journalism when I was 15 years old and have remained in communications throughout my career. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing. I'm currently working Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where I handle communications (and whatever else comes along) for the Chief of the Department of Medicine. It's exciting, occasionally frustrating, but in most ways, rewarding. I also serve as an intermediary between the medical center and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences-the military's medical school. I facilitate research. Previously I served as Director of Communications for the U.S. Travel Association, where I sustained a consistent member message through e-mail and other media and reinforced it at conferences and an annual trade show. Earlier in my Washington, D.C. career, I worked for five years as the Communications Director for Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, who is currently Chairman of the House Committee on Science. He was recognized by the Speaker of the House as author of one of the top five pieces of legislation enacted into law by the 104th Congress in 1996 when I was his spokesman and media strategist for that and subsequent legislation about which I was frequently quoted in the national news media. In 1993 I came to Washington, D.C. to serve as a Congressional Fellow following eight years as an award-winning radio news anchor and political reporter in New England. My last position in radio news was in Hartford, Connecticut. While a journalist I covered two New Hampshire Presidential primaries and had numerous stories air on radio networks including CBS, CNN and the AP and also on radio stations in Boston and New York. Specialties: I have accomplishments in all areas of public relations and communications and look forward to more.
