About Alma Onali
With a background in foreign news and business journalism, I am currently working on my PhD on the relationship between human beings and plastics in the WasteMatters-project in Tampere University. I am especially interested in finding out what kind of humanity does becoming-with plastics create, and how we should deal with this contradictory, affective matter. As a journalist I am especially interested in sustainability issues, food systems and consumer culture. My speciality is writing in-depth articles which take up both the cultural, economical and political sides of issues at hand. Besides writing, I am gathering notorious reputation as an outspoken podcaster. On a sidetrack I do public speaking and host events and panels. I was a member of the self-regulating committee Council of Mass Media for the term 2021–2024. Defending freedom of speech, press freedom and journalists' rights is a passion and a privilege of mine.
