About Amanda Arab

I am an illustrator and story board artist. I explore idea's that are interesting to me such as space, alternate reality and the fantastical focusing on character development. I handle a wide variety of subjects from robots, to fantasy creature designs to children's storybooks. I draw her influences from great artists in the video game industry such as Yoshitaka Amano, Jeremy Bennett, and Matt Rhodes. I work in a multitude of different styles and mediums, from pen and ink, marker, as well as digital painting and vector art. My favourite way of working with character and creature concepts is to play with the features of each character in interesting ways so that you can tell something about the character based on visual apearance alone. I begin my process by selecting or identifying the one or two traits to portray with the character. Then I test out different mediums that will best represent these traits, as well as testing out out different proportions and poses to best represent that character. Through this process of trial and error I can come up with a finished product and begin work on my final peice. Where I take these characters and concepts can vary from illustrated storyboards following a script, a children's storybook, a graphic novel or a fully realized single work of art rendered either digitally or traditionally.
