Background
About Amanda Springer
With over 13 years of clinical genetic counselling experience, in both private and public health care services, Amanda has practiced across many areas of genetic medicine, including reproductive (carrier screening and testing, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), prenatal screening and diagnosis), paediatric and adult (diagnostic and predictive testing) genetics, in both acute and non-acute settings. She has also provided training for health professionals, teaching for post graduate students, and conducted health-based research. Recently, she has been involved in the development of a Master of Genome Analytics degree at Monash University and is a lecturer and co-coordinator of the Clinical Applications of Genomics unit. In addition, Amanda has been involved in development and execution of a number of health-related research projects conducted in the areas of public health, pregnancy outcomes, musculoskeletal research and clinical genetics, including a number of state-wide projects, pregnancy cohort studies and a multi-centred randomised controlled trial. Over the previous 3 years she was involved in the implementation of the Acute Care Genomics program at Monash Health. Currently, she is working with teams at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Macquarie University to support the integration of reproductive genetic carrier screening (RGCS) into mainstream healthcare and developing resources for people considering RGCS in Australia. Amanda completed a Bachelor of Science (with majors in Genetics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) in 2005, Master of Genetic Counselling in 2009 at The University of Melbourne and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment at Monash University in 2018. Amanda is a Registered Genetic Counsellor and a Fellow of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (FHGSA) with Clinical Certification in Genetic Counselling. Amanda is passionate about providing essential training for current and future health professionals in the exciting area of genomics and improving care for individuals and families affected by complex, long term undiagnosed and rare genetic conditions.
