About Ambreen Hafeez

I am a Biochemist and have been actively involved in teaching and research since 2013 just after I was awarded a PhD degree. I have a vast experience of teaching multidisciplinary courses of Biochemistry such as Intermediary Metabolism, Biochemistry of Specialized Tissues, Clinical Biochemistry, Enzymology, Haematology, Biotechnology, Endocrinology and Immunochemistry to undergraduate biomedical sciences students. Beside teaching, I believe that research is one of the important pillar of academics that gives platform to faculty members to contribute in the society. My research interests are mainly Computer Aided Drug Designing (designing of useful therapeutic agents) and Bioinformatics through which one can analyse molecular mechanisms of disease initiation and progression. My training in Computational Biochemistry is complemented by my association with the Biophysics research unit in the department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan where I did half of my Ph.D. research work on Structure-Based Computer Aided Drug Designing in which I have utilized some macromolecular protein structures as targets for drug interaction studies. Moreover, my deep interest in learning Bioinformatics techniques has led me to participate in various hands-on bioinformatics training courses and workshops such as “Bioinformatics Summer School” organized by the University of Angers, France, “Exploring Human Genetic Variations” by Welcome Genome campus, Cambridge, UK, “Databases and Research Tools in Bioinformatics” by Baqai Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan and online Bioinformatics courses I and II from University of Toronto, Canada through CORSERA. All these courses gave me an extensive experience of utilizing bioinformatics tools and in this regard, I have designed some of the projects on Variant Analysis in King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. In addition, my long-term association with Health Science institutions also gave me expertise in clinical research and in this respect, I supervised four student’s clinical research projects. I also worked as a Principal investigator in one of the Higher Education Commission’s funded projects. I have an ability to conduct both clinical and basic science research projects independently which I have already proven by conducting various research projects in the past few years.
