About Amy Serfontein

I pride myself on my passion for teaching and learning. Today, I live and work in Budapest as an ESL Educator. I am a 6th grade main class teacher and I teach English and civilisation to grades 6-8. I also run tutorials and assist these students in preparing for their Cambridge exams (B1-C1). At the Bilingual Program, we value the CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) and CT (Computational Thinking) approaches. We also use a co-teaching model, which encourages students to think, speak, listen and learn in English and Hungarian concurrently. In 2023, I started my PGCE at Stadio, specializing in English Home Language (FET) and English First Additional Language (SP). I had the privilege of working for Genius Premium Tuition, a premium private tutoring company based in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where I served as a Genius Instructor, Squad Leader, Recruitment Assistant, and a member of the marketing department. I then moved into a managerial role where I led students and tutors to achieve their potential with us. In 2021, I completed my undergraduate degree in English and French at the University of Pretoria, followed by my Honours in English Studies at Stellenbosch University in 2022. My research primarily explored colonialism, violence, and r*pe culture through a close reading of two science fiction texts by Black women, addressing both African-American and African contexts through an African feminist and Afro/Africanfuturist approach. While pursuing my studies, I gained valuable experience working part-time across the service, retail, childcare, and education sectors. I also started my own small businesses and nurtured my passions for reading, writing, environmentalism, cooking, and scrapbooking.
