About Ana Beduschi

I hold a Personal Chair as a Full Professor of Law at the University of Exeter, where I am the Co-Director of Research in the Law School. Additionally, I serve as the Interim Strategic Lead for Fair and Inclusive Society at the University of Exeter’s Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. My interdisciplinary expertise lies at the intersection of law and technology, particularly the implications that artificial intelligence has for data protection, privacy, human rights and ethics, and international migration. I have led impactful externally funded research exploring critical issues such as AI governance, digital identity, and the implications of Covid-19 health certificates for data protection and human rights law. Previously, I held visiting research fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and Public International Law in Heidelberg and at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (University of Geneva). I have authored numerous scholarly and policy-oriented publications, including on digital health certificates, synthetic data regulation, AI in humanitarian action, and AI in migration management. My work focuses on advancing law, policy, and practices relating to law and technology to ensure that new and emerging technologies uphold legal rules and ethical standards.
