Driven by a passion to support science and innovation for impact and societal good, Anders Karlsson leads Elsevier's strategic dialogues with academia, government and industry in the Asia Pacific Region. He is frequently invited as speakers at international conferences, among those the Times Higher Education ranking conferences and British Council Higher Education Dialogues. He was for three years the chair of the STM (Science & Technology & Medicine) publisher association Japan chapter. He is currently a member of the Asia Steering Committee for INGSA - The International Network of Government Science Advisors, since March 2023 he a member of the Board of Directors of STINT- the Swedish Foundation for the Internationalization of Higher Education and Research, since July 2024 also independent board member of Solar Energy solutions company Toyo Co. Ltd (Nasdaq), and since April 2024 board member of the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce Japan. He has a strong interest in questions related to sustainable development, where solving the energy supply is a key issue. He has been a member of Elsevier's Sustainability board & engaged in numerous internal and external projects. Previously he served as the Counselor for Science and Innovation at Embassy of Sweden, Tokyo Japan for five years, as well as having held a position as Professor of Quantum Photonics at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He has been a visiting scientist at NTT Basic Research Laboratories, Stanford University, Ecole Polytechnique, Zheijang Unversity and also served as adviser to the Institute of Academic Initiatives, Osaka University. Work style: Result oriented, creative, and with a strong interest in outreach and communication of results. Experience: Science and innovation professional, with extensive experience in government and industry relations and development of policy and relationship building in research, innovation- and growth involving government, academia and business. Also extensive research and teaching experience in a competitive international research environments, having managed a number of national and international projects. Laureate of the 2004 René Descartes Prize of the European Union for Excellence in Collaborative Research. Served as evaluator for the Norwegian, Danish, Irish and Belgian Research Councils, the Israeli Science Foundation, the EU Commission (ESPRIT and IST Programs), the Chinese Academy of Science CAS, the German Research Foundation DFG, the French CNRS, and for a faculty promotion at University College, London.
