About Andrea Davidson

With a successful track record in both arts and financial management, I have a unique overview of the current creative arts and cultural sector. After an early qualification in Finance Management, followed by several years experience gained largely in the private sector, I joined the Arts Council England. Spending over six years in Finance and a further three in Visual Arts, I left in year and undertook a postgraduate qualification in Photography & Urban Culture at Goldsmiths (based in the Sociology Dept). As my Masters concentrated on the sociology of Photography, much of my subsequent freelance work was directed on the ways in which arts can be used to communicate and understand people’s relationships with the creative and cultural sectors. This initially focused on the organisation of photography workshops in schools, youth clubs and galleries, as well as quality assurance and youth consultations. This led to extensive freelance and consultation work with A New Direction, The Arts Council, The Photographers' Gallery, AudioRom, Watermans and other key London arts organisations and galleries at that time. Wider programme and project development was a natural progression. Working increasingly more strategically, I am the Executive Director at Chisenhale Art Place, with responsibility for the day-to-day running and delivery of the charity’s strategic plans and objectives. This includes management and administration of all aspects of finances, staffing, project management, operations and policy compliance as well as guiding and overseeing the charitable remit and Public Programme.
