As a biochemist, I explore the nature of proteins, a field I became interested in through my research into the structure, mechanism, and pharmacology of specific drug target proteins. My hands-on and theoretical expertise includes: • Engineering, expression (bacteria/yeast/mammalian cells), and purification of recombinant proteins • Bioanalytical techniques (chromatography, spectroscopy, western blotting, molecular biology etc.) • Biophysical characterization of protein dynamics, protein-protein/protein-drug interactions, and protein stability • Binding and activity assays of proteins in cellular and purified systems • Development and implementation of experimental techniques, workflows, and screening approaches Much of my research has focused on developing biophysical techniques to investigate membrane proteins, particularly those involved in neurotransmitter transport. By integrating methodologies from different fields, we have deepened our understanding of how neurotransmitter transporters respond to the binding of prescribed drugs, psychostimulants, interacting proteins, and ions.
