Background
About Andy Moyer
MY WHY: The most satisfying aspect of my career was seeing the Marines that I mentored pick up command of organizations and get promoted. Knowing that I played a part in developing these leaders was and will always be deeply fulfilling both personally and professionally. After 30 years in leadership and leadership development roles, I've learned that the essence of leadership is building a cohesive team where transparency and trust are paramount. On Clear Communication : If authentic leadership is found in the ability to build and guide cohesive, transparent, and trustworthy teams, the cornerstone of true leadership is communication. I discovered early on that in order for transparency to be possible, you must have clear communication. For most of my career, I’ve been trusted to create environments where my teams could communicate authentically without fear of judgment or punishment. KEY SKILL SETS: Talent Management 🤝 Workforce Development Leadership Training & Development Strategic Planning (risk analysis, operations) Problem-solving (creative solutions, contingency plans) On Leadership & Trust : Why are people leading in an organization even if they’re not in a leadership position? It’s because people trust them. Over the course of my career, I've built highly functioning, cohesive teams where folks know that they can rely on each other independently of the circumstances. This is true whether the team is ten people, fifty people, or more than 100 strong. Personal Philosophy on Leadership: The core of effective leadership is the ability to create and inspire teams that trust each other, communicate well, work well together, and function at a high level. Every single person has value and every single idea has merit - the function of the leader is to recognize where (and how) that value fits into the organization, and also the optimal time for that the idea (with merit) to be implemented. Not all great ideas are the right idea in time and space, but it doesn't mean they should be thrown out, which could discourage the person who generated the idea. Honoring the person who created it without dismissing their intention to contribute is key to inspiring leadership on every level. CONSERVATIONIST On a personal note, I am an advocate for the protection of and flourishing of endangered species, as well as ocean conservation, and conscious land use management. I believe it is critical that we find a way for people to enjoy our great outdoors while also protecting and restoring nature across the planet.
