It says a lot about an industry when you take on a role doing something you never expected to be any good at and in all honesty wasn’t sure you would even like, and 13 years later, you're still in it but with a wealth of personal development, amazing experiences and the knowledge that you have had a huge impact on the charities and beneficiaries you have been lucky enough to represent. Not to mention the team members and fundraisers that I am fortunate to have worked with along the way, as well as the unbelievable support from managers I have worked under, helping me meander through my fundraising journey. From the first day I put on my ChildFund t-shirt, I felt a sense of responsibility and purpose for the job. Seeing the faces on the child profiles I was handing out to new donors, knowing because of that 30-minute conversation I had with that individual, together we have helped provide food, water and education to that child's community. There is no feeling in the world like getting a new inspired donor onboard! ChildFund. the first of the 15+ charities I have been privileged to have worked with. In the latter half of my career, I have been able to build on solid foundations. Starting as a Roaming Manager six years ago for Fundamental and building successful roaming teams. I then took a sidestep into client accounts when I needed a new challenge. This change helped me learn the back end, offering a deeper understanding of fundraising and gave me a completely different perspective of the industry. Taking the leap back into fundraiser management to fill a gap for Fundamental but not wanting to drop the communication with our clients, Fundamental created a General Manager role which allowed me to continue managing field and clients simultaneously and has undoubtedly helped me flourish in my career, drawing on all my skill sets obtained from previous years' experience. Every day I continue to grow. New opportunities and relationships are out there around the corner. I am proud of my career and happy where I am in life; married, with a baby boy, a girl on the way and a new house to call our own. I have a lot to be thankful for, and a lot I've worked hard for. Every day is a new day in fundraising, bring on tomorrow!
