About Anika Manuel

I am an ambitious, curious, and driven individual. Throughout my different work experiences, I have acquired a diverse skillset that allows me to perform a wide range of tasks well. I have over 8 years of experience working in customer service, from retail to food service to camps and community programming. My experience as a research aid for professors throughout my time at Chapman directly led to my individual research projects. Just in undergrad itself, I presented my research at two different conferences and published one article in a graduate research journal. Without a doubt, it is my experience working in diverse communities that have greatly shaped who I am today. I am working towards becoming a critical researcher on the impact of violent legacies on current realities and institutions, and I aspire to become a scholar-practitioner — or a scholar-activist as I say — who contributes both to the body of research in these fields and also concretely serves the communities it regards. By pairing my scholarship with some form of community-based work and advocacy, I imbue my career with purpose.
