About Ann Flaherty

Ann has a long track record working with young people on a variety of environment protection programmes and has helped over 450 schools go solar. Ann is a passionate believer that children who will inherit the world, should understand it and have the opportunity to shape it; Solar for Schools helps them do just that. Solar For Schools makes sure solar power is accessible to all schools irrespective of the socio-economic location. Where schools have no funds available, the solar panels are paid for and owned by a Solar for Schools Community Benefit Society, which raises money from socially minded members of our community (national). The Community Benefit Society collects the income from sale of electricity to the school and the grid and uses this income to pay for education, monitoring, management, insurance, maintenance, spare parts, capital repayment and interest payments. Any surplus project income is returned to the schools as profits, which member schools can use for further teaching and learning opportunities; adding value to their school over the contract period. What makes Solar for Schools different? We inspire students We empower students by providing energy literacy education funded by the income generated by the solar panels 2. Long-term partners We ensure the system is looked after, provide education and support for 25 years and share 100% of the project profits with you. More than solar power We manage and de-risk the entire process of going solar for you so you have no capital or maintenance costs usually associated with owning a system. Sustainable community We encourage socially minded funders to take part to create a community of solar schools that listen to young people concerns to help build a positive future.
