Background
About Anne McKee
Cliff notes: I'm a lab coordinator and research assistant with extensive current and past experience in a wide variety of fields, namely: GIS, habitat mapping, remote sensing, ocean technology, and sustainable aquaculture.I am currently working as a laboratory coordinator and research assistant at Dalhousie University. I help our large, multi-project lab group run smoothly by assisting with field work, ordering required equipment or organising training, providing guidance in project decisions, and analysing data for collaborative projects.I recently earned my MSc in Oceanography at Dalhousie University under the supervision of Dr. Jon Grant. I developed habitat suitability maps for the American lobster via the analysis of acoustic substrate data from local bays in combination with juvenile lobster sampling and lobster trap data. Over the course of this research I gained technical experience with single-beam echosounders, drones, underwater drop cameras, substrate core sampling methods (including multicores), ADCPs, sediment profile imagers, cluster analyses, MatLab/R script writing, the ArcGIS suite, coding languages such as Python, R, and MatLab, VisualHabitat, MaxEnt, and LaTeX. I have also presented my work at conferences at the international, national, and local levels, and have collaborated with different labs and working groups to our mutual benefits. My Bachelor's of Environmental Science was earned at the University of Guelph, where much of my work was project-based. I was part of an 8 month project where we were commissioned by The Nature Conservancy of Canada to create a Best Management Practices framework with regard to fire regime management. Similarly, I designed and completed an independent study on the diversity of Corixidae spp. in Arctic freshwater environments, where I collected, analysed, and interpreted hundreds of insect samples. This degree culminated in my honour's thesis, for which I designed and executed aquatic toxicology experiments.
