About Antonio Cervone

Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, specialisation in Automatic Controls,(grade: 110/110). Seamlessly employed at Hitachi Rail STS, formerly Ansaldo, since October 1997 (Railway Transportation Systems field). From 1997 to 2021 I was involved in Rail Engineering projects worldwide as technical responsible for the delivery of electromechanical and telecommunication systems. In particular I used to deal with Platform Screen Door/Gate Systems - PSDS - and Obstacle Detection Systems - ODS - and I assumed the role of Hitachi Global Referent of said technolgies until 2021. I got a deep experiencein PSDS and their integration into Metro Transportation systems, starting from the analysis of Final Customer specifications during the bidding phase through the design, testing, installation and commissioning on site. In the last year I passed to the Research and Innovation Department, where I am exploiting experience in LiDAR sensors, gained with ODS, to design and prototype systems for the train positioning, which are based on laser scanners and other technologies. I am currently implementing software algorithms in C++ and Matlab for the exploitation of Point Clouds from laser scanners in order to figure out train path and current location (e.g. LOAM, NDT, ICP). I am also designing in C++ and Blueprint languages a simulator of the railway environment, based on the Unreal Engine raphic motor, which is mainly aimed at producing virtual Point Clouds for the analyses above said. Participation in big international projects complemented my technical skills with the attitude to deal with different suppliers, colleagues, customers and their different cultures, approaches, technical solutions, allowing me to achieve wide technical expertise together with managerial and interpersonal skills. Complexity and quite long durations of the projects, I was involved in, also taught me being collaborative, determined and decisive to reach targets which were not always immediate. My goal is to still improve my competences and technical preparation and to keep having technical and managerial responsibilities in big projects worldwide, while mentoring young engineers.
