I used to work at Conduit British Gas as a customer service advisor, where my primary responsibility was to book appointments for engineers to deal with any concerns that customers had. The main lesson I got from working there is the importance of active listening and problem-solving skills as well as working as part of a successful functioning team. Overall, it was an enriching opportunity that improved my interpersonal skills and gave me valuable knowledge about the energy industry. I currently work as a youth employment mentor at Cardiff council with my primary focus being to provide employment opportunities to young people between the ages of 16-24 and booking them onto training courses to allow them to up skill themselves. It's an incredibly rewarding job as I get to help shape the future of these individuals and assist them in achieving their goals. My role primarily involves working with local businesses to identify potential job openings for my clients and engaging with training providers, with the council funding any course that the youth may be interested in such as security training, construction academy and the railway industry. Additionally, I also engage with young people who are struggling to find work or have limited experience, providing mentorship and guidance in areas like CV writing, interview skills, and overall employability. It's always fulfilling when one of my mentees finds success in securing a job as it reinforces the impact that my work has on their lives.
