Hi! I’m April! Eclectic transitioning teacher and curriculum designer with 9 years of experience in the field of K-12 education. My mission is to create a learning experience that bolsters student achievement while drawing students in with relevant and engaging curriculum centered around standards, learning theories, universal design of learning (UDL), and best practices. ‍I work closely with subject matter experts, teachers, and administration to build an inclusive and challenging learning experience for students. I have a masters degree in instructional design, where I created a 12 week persuasive writing curriculum, incorporating educational technology and inquiry/project-based learning opportunities. Through all the phases of the curriculum life cycle, I have the experience to analyze, design, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of learning solutions. 🧩Culturally Responsive- As a member of the Instruction for Race and Identity team, I led a district team to create culturally responsive project-based teaching materials for the 6th grade that met Learning for Justice standards. 🧠Brain learning Geek- I am fascinated by the science of how we learn! Data driven- Data is my love language! I love to conduct teacher feedback sessions to ensure that the curriculum I create is meeting the needs of students and teachers. Research backed- I always stay up to date with the latest research in education so that my curriculums reflect the most recent findings. Lifelong learner- I am constantly looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge.
