About Aramide Ogunmekan

Being an Accounting and Jazz Voice double major, I’ve been able to discover a number of unexpected parallels between Accounting and Music. In both, it’s crucial to have integrity. Being entrusted with finances is not a light undertaking, and morality is an essential part of my character. Similarly, art requires authenticity, and the stories told on stage must be true to the performer. As a leader, I take initiative through being prepared and proactive, making sure that I understand my role and being rather than seeing. Musically, I enjoy taking risks and discovering new approaches to old standards. Finally, in today’s dynamic business environment, the ability to be agile and adapt to one’s surroundings based on verbal and non-verbal cues is essential in ensuring a productive and positive work environment. A large part of Jazz is improvisation, being in the moment and making musical decisions based on the feel and groove of those you share the stage with. Throughout the rest of my time at Indiana University, I plan to continue to develop and grow as a professional and as a musician, to ultimately make an impact in the professional realm as an ethical and reliable Accounting professional.
