About Arjun Thakkar

I'm a passionate storyteller dedicated to clear communication and making state and local news accessible to the public. I strive to have empathy for listeners and readers and write stories with the goal of explaining why issues matter to them with concise language. I enjoy breaking down complex issues and diving into public meeting agendas and official documents to explain why an issue matters to audiences. It's always exciting when I can use historical context or data visualizations to bridge the information gap with audiences. Whether it’s housing, infrastructure, transportation or ballot proposals, I believe keeping my neighbors informed about local government empowers them to be more engaged community members. I’m currently the Senior Editor for Illinois Public Media, the NPR-member station at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
