About Athanasios Serafeim

Athanasios Serafim, PhD, is a Civil Engineer specializing in water resources management and environmental technology, with extensive expertise in applying data-driven approaches to address critical challenges in water distribution networks. His doctoral research, conducted on the water distribution network of the city of Patras—the first smart water network in Greece—focused on reducing leakages through advanced statistical analysis and probabilistic modeling. This work involved extensive data analysis, employing GIS tools enhanced with Python scripts to develop innovative methodologies for network optimization. In recent years, Athanasios has also worked as a water networks consultant, collaborating with various water distribution utilities. His work focuses on leveraging advanced analytics and technical expertise to enhance the efficiency and reliability of water supply systems. Athanasios is an active member of the Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN), contributing to multiple projects aimed at assessing utilities’ resilience and optimizing water networks. His participation in SWAN reflects his commitment to advancing best practices and innovative solutions in the water sector, particularly in areas of predictive modeling and infrastructure sustainability.
