Insurance industry? You mean somewhere you can help individuals overcome financial barriers; and you have to deal with different types of risk AND translate raw data into practical knowledge all at the same time? Mmm, I love it! I start my job 7 years ago by exploring new insurance models, coverages, and products. FIRST LESSON? There is always something to learn, and with the technology’s rapid pace, there is always something new! I’ll always make sure that I am in the path of educating myself plus giving credit to those who have something fresh to share. Next, I continue my journey with identifying risks through in-depth discussions with colleagues. SECOND LESSON? Communication is the critical part of obtaining insight! I persistently try to have an open conversation with teammates and coworkers to figure out what they know, what risks they’re facing and how best to handle these risks. Then, I joined the BI team to create analytical reports. I was receiving the raw data from the IT department and changing it to insights and managerial dashboards relative to seniors and managers’ unique needs. THIRD LESSON? Precision is the key when it comes to data. I know when my colleagues open a report; they have a goal in their mind and want a specific piece of information. My first goal as a data visualizer and data analyst has always been to ensure that the user gets what they came for. As quickly as possible. Meantime, I tried to come up with ideas to protect our mother Earth. In my free time, I take part in launching an E-commerce business, which focuses on sustainable environmental-friendly products. In my current role, I try to quantify the underwriting risks, estimate the outstanding loss, and calculate the premium of new insurance products by using statistical methods. LAST LESSON? Do not forget the previous hardly learned lessons!
