A high ranking professor (Chair of Secure Pervasive Technologies) at the University of Reading, UK; to-date he has served the international research community through various leadership roles, including: 1. Founding Director of the Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory (ISR) 2. Chairman of the Steering Board of the European Research Centre of Excellence in Video-Analytics (VCE VideoSense) 3. Chair of Security Architectures and Virtualisation Paradigms for the European SecurIST Research Roadmap Programme Atta’s work has centred on societally intelligent, responsible and inclusive innovation for life/work-style support; e.g. as in personalised context-aware cognitive systems to support secure, man-machine interaction, framework architecture for security-privacy-aware personalisation and knowledge cloud (MobiPets-Cloud). Atta has served as the scientific & technical leader/coordinator/core member of many large research projects addressing challenges in the areas of cyber security, critical infrastructure security vulnerabilities and threat detection, industrial monitoring and control systems (SCADA) security, FPGA-enabled high-speed deep packet inspection, ID Management & secure-access policy execution, video-analytics, ambient intelligence, cognitive robotics & social machines, human-robot teamwork, advanced HCI & affective computing, perceived-pleasure-pain-gain-based model of user’s ranked requirements and usability-relationship-centric evaluation of systems (UI-REF), multimodal command, communications & control assistive companions, persona-privacy-trust modelling, speech and natural language processing, semantic scene analysis, semantic workflow integration, semantic media search & auto-tagging technologies, secure sensor network integration, service-oriented-model-driven architectures, Internet of Things (IoT), agent & behaviour modelling, simulation and data mining (policy, energy efficiency, carbon footprint, social/criminal networks intelligence).
