About Austin Orr

I’m a Process Engineer with 6+ years of experience developing and deploying intelligent visual inspection systems in high-volume manufacturing environments. My work bridges hardware, software, and data to solve complex visual inspection and quality challenges at scale. At Tesla's Gigafactory 1, I led the development of a CNN-based machine vision system that eliminated over $500K in annual scrap by automating defect detection. I’ve served as the primary owner of multiple Keyence vision stations—configuring optics, lighting, and code logic—and have designed full data pipelines to capture and analyze vision results in real time.My experience extends from camera selection and lighting design to algorithm development, ETL integration, and root-cause analytics using Python, R, and SQL. I’ve worked closely with manufacturing, quality, and automation teams to implement robust, scalable inspection systems that improve yield and reduce downtime.Beyond cameras, I also bring experience integrating vision into broader automation workflows—working with PLCs (Siemens), robotic sequencing, and SCADA data streams to build end-to-end solutions.I’m passionate about pushing the limits of what vision systems can do in industrial settings, and I’m eager to contribute to teams driving innovation in intelligent manufacturing, space systems, and automation.Let’s connect if you’re working on computer vision that powers the future of production.
