About Austin Settle

I'm a resident physician in psychiatry at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine who received my medical degree from Touro University California College of Medicine and undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. I have a specific interest in the intersection of mental health, physical health, and neuroscience, and I am hoping to put that into practice as a psychiatrist. I have an atypical background for a resident - I used to work in Account Management and Marketing for ZL Technologies, a Silicon Valley software company specializing in data analytics for large enterprises. While I enjoyed my work, I felt that there was more potential for me in a field that maximized my ability to combine rigorous critical thinking with empathetic perception. So I took a leap and within a year found myself holding a scalpel over a cadaver instead of a laser pointer over a conference table.As a dual degree student (Arts & Sciences and the Olin Business School) who completed the pre-medical track, a Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology major, history minor, and a wide range of business courses, I am constantly driven to push myself intellectually. My path has taken unique twists and turns, but I have always been driven by one thing: understanding the human element.
