Why I Help Individuals and Organizations Tear Down Walls… We all build walls to protect ourselves from what we don’t want, not realizing that they also keep us from getting what we do want. Each team member comes to your organization with their walls and with their stories. Until the walls come down and the stories get aligned there will be a limit to what can be achieved. The walls have to go. I know because I was the queen of stories and a master builder of walls. I would do just about anything to not create conflict and not get hurt. And even though I looked successful it was a sham and it wasn’t sustainable. But it was all I knew. I honestly didn’t know any other way to play the game. During my 21-year corporate career I would pretty up my walls so they looked good from the outside. Doing what I needed to do to get by. Playing not to lose instead of putting myself out there and playing to win. All I could hear were the stories in my head that kept me playing it safe. “Who am I to teach this”? “What if they find me out”? And then the unthinkable happened. They found me out. I crashed and burned. BAD. The wall cracked and I admitted my “weakness” … and I survived. Actually, I got a lot stronger. That was the beginning of something special that turned my life from building walls to tearing them down. Of course there is more to that story and I look forward to sharing it with you one day. NOW, I take ALL that I’ve learned from my time in Corporate and my time doing Transformational Leadership work and I help companies tear down the walls and build authentic cultures that get real results. Most organizations are spending (I know the organization I worked for was) 100% of their resources (time and money) on 25-50% of their business, and they don’t do anything about it because they don’t see it. I wish I knew then, what I know now. That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: “Do the best you can until you know better.
