About Barry Gerhold

Barry has been working in Enforcement since 2003, has a wealth of experience in the Police and Local Authority. He is a passionate, innovative and hard-working problem solver. Most of my experience is within Croydon Council, where my roles have been to deal with Environmental crime and anti-social behaviour. Dealing with: fly-tipping offences; littering; obstructions of the public highway; abandoned, nuisance vehicles; waste on private land and Business waste. I have led a project to introduce a time banded waste scheme to areas of Croydon. My role here has been to identify properties to join the scheme and engage with local residents and businesses to ensure the project’s success. Issuing Section 34 & Section 47 (EPA) notices to local businesses, and advising residents. Additionally I have had a large part in targeting residential properties to reduce highway obstructions. Issuing Section 46 notices for bin offences and community protection warning letters for breaches. I have been given the responsibility of providing IT support to my colleagues who require it, using my skills and knowledge to fix and help individuals who are having issues with their desktop computers and council supplied mobile devices. I also have experience in client monitoring. Responding to members enquires and stage one complaints. Resolving these with inspections and joint working with our waste contractor. I also had involvement in developing an app to report and record monitoring. I deal with Traveller encampments, where I conduct a welfare assessment on the group, assess the needs of the group and local community and serve notice upon them if necessary. I also assist the bailiffs in carrying out the eviction. As well as traveller encampments there are a number of other issues of anti-social behaviour incidents I deal with on a daily basis, I involve other relevant agencies while also using prevention, intervention and diversion measures such as acceptable behaviour agreements. I also deal with: Street drinking; aggressive begging; drug misuse; graffiti; fly-tipping; trade waste; domestic waste; dog fouling; litter; vehicle nuisance; overgrown vegetation & noise. Trained authorised officer: Council by laws, Crime & Disorder Act 1998, ASB Act 2003, Police Reforms Act 2002, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Highways Act 1990, I have experience using PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984) Taking statements from witnesses, interviewing suspects and compiling case files for court.
