About Bart Turner

As a partner at KMCL Law, I focus on environmental and toxic tort litigation, as well as regulatory compliance. My practice spans all areas of environmental law, with particular strength in complex environmental disputes and compliance matters. I routinely handle toxic tort, hazardous waste, and Superfund litigation, along with state and federal enforcement actions. I have substantial experience defending citizen suits brought under the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, with a track record of achieving favorable outcomes for clients. My experience includes: • Defending government entities, manufacturers, and industrial clients in environmental litigation • Successfully negotiating consent decrees and settlement agreements with federal and state agencies • Representing numerous industry defendants in PFAS litigation matters • Obtaining summary judgments and favorable settlements in cost recovery actions • National brownfields practice, representing developers in numerous jurisdictions in successful redevelopment projects. • Representing clients in OSHA investigations and enforcement proceedings • Advising on compliance with environmental laws and regulations across multiple industries I also regularly counsel clients on environmental compliance, workplace exposure, and permitting issues before the U.S. EPA, OSHA, and various state and local regulatory agencies. In transactional matters, I assist clients with environmental risk allocation, post-closing corrective actions, permitting requirements, and related regulatory approvals. Prior to joining KMCL in 2016, I was a shareholder at Maynard, Cooper & Gale. I received my J.D. from Vermont Law School where I served as an Article Editor for the Vermont Law Review and a Dean's Fellow. I studied Environmental Toxicology at UAB after graduating from Rhodes College. My work has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America® for Environmental Law and Environmental Litigation since 2011, including being named "Lawyer of the Year" for Environmental Litigation in Birmingham multiple times (2019, 2022, 2024) and for Environmental Law in 2017.
