About Becky James
I have worked in education in various roles for 22 years. I have held classroom and specialist positions, mostly in early elementary and English/literacy roles. I also mentored practicum students in preservice teaching placements through the University of Delaware. Currently, I am a reading specialist working with our tier 3 and specialty populations, including those with LD, SLD, dyslexia and other various diagnoses. I am the first specialist in this role in my 3-5 building, so I’ve been directly involved in the entire program, from assessments to schedule and curriculum choices. I collect and manage data, support teachers, and constantly strive to grow my own knowledge and skill set. I have documented hundreds of hours of PD in Structured Literacy Instruction. My goal is to work in a capacity to help teachers bring positive and effective change to their practice of teaching literacy, either directly or as an agent of the state in designing PD or pathways to learning.
