About Ben McInnes

I’m a Unity Generalist and have spent 7+ years prototyping and developing experiences. I'm a self-taught programmer with a background in electronics engineering. I have a passion for exploring ideas through game development, and particularly enjoy gameplay programming and applying design principles to challenging problems. I love helping people achieve their vision through iteration and experimentation. I find that clear communication is hugely beneficial to this process. I'm constantly looking into ways of conveying ideas effectively and figuring out how to best utilise feedback. The majority of my experience lies in client work with relatively short-term development cycles. This has given me experience in: • Working quickly and building stable, reliable software on tight deadlines. • Being exposed to situations that have required problem-solving with very constrained resources. • Iterating quickly and pivoting as needed to achieve the project's goals. I also enjoy using my electronic engineering background to bring digital creations into physical spaces. I have built everything from intense LED-only wizard battlers to punch-em-up rhythm alternative controllers and large installations for an edutainment center.
