Background
About Ben Unwin
Welcome to my profile. I am currently working at the European Spallation Source as a Chopper technician. Through my role I am able to build and maintain Chopper Systems on instrumentation such as Magic and Bifrost here at ESS. Additionally I regularly help with the designing process for the Choppers helping to improve our designs for the future. I am a Qualified Aircraft technician from an extensive four-year apprenticeship and over nine months fully skilled, previously working for Leonardo helicopters UK. I have experience in component, structural and composite assembly, installations and repairs on AW101, AW159 and Lynx Aircraft. Offering constant attention to precision, accuracy and quality with a very strong work ethic for high levels of productivity and efficiency. Accurately interpreting detailed engineering drawings and specifications to ensure faultless production standards, dedicated to quality and safety compliance for dependable assembly services whilst also being able to find and correct any problems that may occur. I am also completing further courses to increase knowledge and abilities further to be an invaluable team member. I completed college courses with business improvement techniques and the Solid works CAD program where I completed design projects for items like screws and hinges along with a project where I designed and then completed the manufacturing process. Being apart of a team is importance to me, communicating and assisting team members on individual projects as it is the best way to ensure that work is completed to a higher standard and providing the best results possible. Outside of work I have completed all three levels of the Duke of Edinburgh award Bronze, Silver and gold whilst also completing Ten tors, which has improved my teamwork, leadership and problem solving abilities further. Additionally I am learning to fly glider aircraft, which is improving my knowledge, communication and problem solving skills further. I have previously volunteered to Be a STEM ambassador where I taught school students theory lessons and helped them with problem solving whilst they completed their projects. Additionally I am a Level 1 hockey coach and have had experience coaching U12 and U14 children. These volunteering opportunities have helped me to improve my communication abilities to suit a broader range of people.
