About Ben Whetton

I am a software, control systems and simulation engineer with 9 years of experience modelling and optimising physical systems and controllers, writing software tools, libraries and applications, and researching new technologies. In my current role developing autonomous sub-sea robotics software at Seebyte, I work on significant new features and refactors, design library APIs, and write clean, well-structured and tested code. I help improve software quality across the team by refining processes and promoting best practices in coding, software testing, use of code quality tools and code review. As a R&D engineer at CPT, an electric motors start-up, I led control system development and multi-disciplinary optimisation of the motor. I collaborated with other domain specialists and delegated work package to junior engineers. I balanced my time between rapidly responding to customer demands and developing tools and algorithms which improved the long-term value of our products. My multi-disciplinary background helps me look at problems from many perspectives. I have experience in control systems, software development, embedded software development and testing, dynamic system analysis and simulation, optimisation, power electronics, instrumentation, test rig design and machine learning.
