About Benedetta Armocida

I am a global public health professional with a deep focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), health policy, and systems strengthening. Currently, I serve as a Senior Researcher at the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS), where I lead the EU4Health Joint Action on Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes (JACARDI), a €60 million initiative aimed at reducing the burden of NCDs across Europe. I also serve as a representative on the Technical Operating Committee of the Programma Mattone Internazionale Salute - ProMIS Triennio 2023-2025 and as an expert within the National Mirror Group of the Transforming Health and Care System (THCS). I hold a Medical Degree, a Master's in Tropical Medicine and Global Health, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Global Health at the University of Geneva, where my research focuses on adolescent health, NCD prevention and management, Global Burden of Disease (GBD), and Health Information Management Systems (HIMS). I explore how data-driven insights from GBD and HIMS can inform policy decisions, aiming to enhance health systems and combat the growing burden of NCDs globally. Beyond research, I am actively involved in global health policy development and scientific collaboration. I contribute as a Senior Collaborator to the Global Burden of Disease study and work on initiatives like the Lancet Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Maltreatment of Young People (Italian case study) and the Lancet Migration European Hub. These collaborations address pressing issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), migrant health, and the intersection of NCDs with social determinants of health. As a lecturer in Global Health and Global NCDs, I collaborate with institutions such as the University of Brescia, the University of Pavia, and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, aiming to inspire and equip the next generation of public health professionals. I co-founded Saluteglobale.it, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting health equity and global health education. My work is driven by a commitment to improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations and ensuring that no one is left behind in our collective pursuit of better global health. With a focus on data-driven policy, health systems strengthening, and global collaboration, I strive to create impactful, sustainable health systems, paving the way for a healthier, more equitable future.
