About Bernard de Barbeyrac

I have always enjoyed analysing data, building models and operational strategies. My main field of application has been lending, either to customers or to companies, but I think the concepts and methods are applicable to connex sectors (insurance, payment management.). In the last 5-7 years, the emergence of machine learning and AI has changed our ways of working, not only in terms of modelling methodologies, but also in terms of technical ecosystems and scope of intervention of modelling teams. I have worked on a variety of ML models using structured and unstructured data in binary classification models. My main achievement has been the development and deployment of models allowing to make an instant decision on a term loan application from a SME,and, more importantly, the consistent performance of these models across the economic cycle, as proven by observed default rates on the book. I also enjoy building teams and helping people to grow in their career. Various times, I have built teams from scratch and, by designing the right recruitment, training, processes and organisation, I have been able to build robust teams, who could work fine even if some key elements evolved into new roles.
