Background
About Bernard Maacaron
I am a Robotics Engineer with a strong focus on neuromorphic computing, a field that bridges neuroscience and robotics. My work primarily revolves around developing systems that mimic biological processes, particularly in vision and perception, using spiking neural networks and event-driven systems. This passion for brain-inspired technology drives my efforts to advance the field of robotics and AI. I began my journey in Computer and Communications Engineering, where I completed a Bachelor’s thesis developing Vitruvius, an AI-driven motion capture system using KinectV2 and SVM for fitness evaluation. Following this, I gained experience as a Research and Development Engineer at International Software Solutions, working on all-terrain rovers and drone technology. During my European Master in Advanced Robotics (EMARO), I expanded my expertise in robotics systems integration and machine learning, which laid the groundwork for my current research in neuromorphic vision and spiking neural networks. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have honed my expertise in: 1. Machine Learning and AI Integration 2. GPU-Based Processing and high-performance computational techniques 3. Neuromorphic Computing and Event-Driven Systems 4. Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) Currently, I am focusing on the development of neuromorphic vision systems that leverage event cameras and spiking neural networks. My recent work includes building persistent representations of visual data in dynamic environments, which can address issues like static scene blindness—making robots more adaptive in real-world situations. My work contributes to closing the gap between biological vision and robotics, enabling machines to perceive and interact with their environment in a more natural, efficient way. The systems I develop push the boundaries of robotics, from real-time visual processing to enhanced human-robot interaction. Moving forward, I am eager to explore new research and collaboration opportunities in brain-inspired AI, particularly within the fields of robotics and computational neuroscience. My goal is to design fully integrated neuromorphic pipelines for robotics applications, furthering the integration of neuroscience into technological innovation.
