About Bill Black

After over 4 decades in the design and construction industry in a broad variety of roles and industry segments, Bill has accumulated a great deal of knowledge not only by way of his direct experiences, but also through the diverse network of industry practitioners and thought leaders that he has remained connected with over the years. The variety of roles, often in challenging circumstances, and this network have conveniently conspired to provide a healthy environment that has constantly developed his appetite for continuous learning, major challenges, deep change initiatives and engaging with leading edge concepts that will benefit the industry, its stakeholders and those we serve. Bill takes all situations in his stride and uses his natural abilities, experience and built-in resilience to motivate others to take on the challenges through great teamwork with a strong focus on culture and values. With a deep sense of the value of doing what is right and doing it well, Bill will always put the needs of the business, the team and the customer before his own. Often seeing humour as a powerful way to engage others, Bill is hands on and energetic in his approach and communication style. As a leader his goal is to help others find their true fit within their career path through a sense of team-based achievement, purpose and mastery - Or as he would say "Work should never feel like just a job!" Never one to shy away from a perfectly good chance to be outside his comfort zone Bill will raise his hand every time. Bill is a frequent keynote speaker at many industry events as a constant champion of change and an outspoken advocate for a better construction industry. Founding member of the Mindshift consortium and co-authored "The Commercial Real Estate Revolution". Mindshift won the Corenet Global Innovators Award in 2009. Calgary Construction Association person of the year in 2014 and a board member since 2012, Bill was Chair of the CCA board in 2018 prior to taking on the role of President & COO later that year. In February 2023 Bill was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his work on behalf of the Construction Industry.
