At the foundation of Global Risk Management (GRM) is a concept that suggests that there are alternative methods and techniques to manage financial risks resulting from commodity price fluctuation other than price forecasting. The simple fact is that if a person could consistently and accurately forecast and trade forward markets, there would be no need to engage in the business. Just trade the markets. After spending 23 years as a commodity futures broker, I can clearly attest to the fact the about 92% all traders will loose there original stake sometime over a five year period and exit the market.(Conti Commodities Inc. statistics 1985) Therefore, beginning in 1997, I work side-by-side with my respected friend and colleague, Chris Morely to develop a consulting business that supported alternative methodologies and utilized alternative forward contracts like options on futures, to better manage a business that is financially impacted by fluctuating agricultural and energy prices.
