Branka Legetic, MD, is Regional Adviser and coordinator of prevention and control of chronic non communicable diseases (NCDs) program of the Pan American Health Organization- World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), where serves since year She has a PhD degree in prevention of chronic non communicable diseases and master’s degree on community based integrated cardiovascular prevention and specialization in community medicine and organization of health services. She has more than 15 years of extensive experience in global heath issues,in particular noncommunicable diseases prevention and control, including intersectoral collaboration with civil society and private sector, and leadership of regional and country level projects focusing on health and development issues. Her areas of expertise are:health promotion with attention to polices related to nutrition, physical activity and smoking; planning and evaluation of health care systems performance, capacity building through undergraduate and post graduate education related to Public Health topics and continuous professional education related to NCDs, health economics to improve health and policy decision making and NCDs surveillance, reaching beyond risk factors and expanding to on policies, system response and social and economic determinants. Her main partners have been UN agencies (UNDP, FAO,UNESCO;ILO,UNICEF) WB, Caribbean Interamerican Bank, ECLAC, Global and regional NGOs (WHF, WHL, IAHF,CI, AHA, HCC, NCD Alliance, etc). She has led or has been the core team member of numerous projects at regional and country level on the above mentioned areas of her expertise. She holds academic position as professor of Public Health at European University Belgrade, Integrated faculty for pharmaceutical sciences. She has published over 100 articles in scientific journals of national and international importance. She is the author of 3 monographs, coauthor of two scientific books and editor of 2 scientific books.
