About Brendan Murphy

I'm an extremely hardworking and dedicated individual with more than 15 years experience as a communications and media professional. I have successfully led media and corporate communications teams at some of Britain’s biggest charities, including Shelter and the NSPCC, and also major local authorities including Ealing Council. I am at present part of the busy Communications Team at Brighton & Hove City Council. I have also worked as a journalist for national, regional and local newspapers including The Sun, The Daily Record, The Yorkshire Evening Post, The Leicester Mercury and the Bolton Evening News. I'm an expert adviser on all aspects of communications, including media, external and internal, strategic planning, reputation building, crisis management and policy. As a former national newspaper political correspondent, I have excellent news sense and judgement, first class media contacts and a high level of political acumen. I have strong, positive leadership and management skills and am a sound budget holder. I changed career five years ago to become a primary school teacher and fulfil, what I believed was, a lifelong calling. However I have successfully moved back into communications and media as I genuinely missed the buzz and excitement.
