About Brenna Blackman

To tell you a bit about me, let me start by telling you something you already know: Video Games can be very complex undertakings, built from the contributions of many departments or disciplines, each calling to different people, for different reasons. I'm an environment artist because I believe the adage of “show don’t tell” is the difference between a good story and a great one. Compelling narrative is the cornerstone in all of the games that I love. Ultimately, that's what I aim to do; tell great stories. It's part of why I studied theatre and film performance at The University of Winnipeg. Or why I studied creative writing and literature at the same time. Video games and environment art allow me to bring all those facets of storytelling to one place. Whether creating modular kits, gorgeous materials, or detailed props; my goal is to create engaging and visually appealing spaces. Ones that immerse the player and keep them feeling like an active participant in the unfolding narrative. Beyond the art, I love to be challenged by getting a little technical and learning something new. Because pro-active collaboration across those many departments is not only how to get the best possible version of the experience into the players hands, but also the best possible version of your team to the finish line.
