About Brian Duran

I’m grateful to be able to look back and say that each season of my professional life has been marked by the creation of new opportunities for young people to experience the wonders of musical and artistic expression. Currently I work to maximize the impact of Music and the Arts K-12 in the charter sector by supporting teams of educators in implementing co-created, tailored visions for arts programming in their schools. Toward this end, I equip each team with a variety of curricular, pedagogical and coaching tools, so it is well-positioned to realize its goals for high quality arts education in its community. A few hills that I’ve come to learn are really worth the climb and struggle for me are universal arts education, equity, inclusion, diversity of people and thought, school choice, and the internal power we build in resisting single stories about people and groups. If I weren’t an arts educator I’d probably be a historian. People and their histories fascinate me. I enjoy teaching large groups of young people how to prepare and stage concerts, especially when keyboards are involved. Playing music is breathing air to me - I can’t go too long without doing it. I also act and paint a little. Most of all I love sharing the transcendent, healing power of all these things with others. I’d be interested in connecting with anyone in the Arts & Music education sectors, and would be happy to brainstorm on a variety of topics to support your next creative steps over a virtual coffee or tea.
