About Brian Tan

My goal is to make a large positive impact with my career. I co-founded WhiteBox Research in 2023 and lead its operations and marketing. WhiteBox aims to develop more AI interpretability and safety researchers in Asia. I previously was a Group Support Contractor for the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) for two years, where I helped support effective altruism (EA) groups around the world. CEA is a non-profit that supports the growth of the global EA movement. Effective altruism is the philosophy of using evidence and reason to do the most good with one's career and resources. Before working at CEA, I co-founded and worked full-time on Effective Altruism Philippines as a community builder. I supported three local EA student chapters - EA Blue in the Ateneo de Manila University, EA UPD in the University of the Philippines Diliman, and EA Taft in De La Salle University, the top 3 universities in the Philippines. Before EA Philippines, I had 3 years of experience in Product Design in various tech companies. I was formerly a Senior Product Designer at First Circle, a fintech company providing financial services to SMEs. And while in university, I did 6 internships at various tech companies.
