About Bryan Heit

I am an Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada), where I run a laboratory focused on macrophage function during health and disease. This research focuses on the cell and molecular biology regulating efferocytosis - the removal of dead or dying cells. These studies also aim to identify how defects in these processes lead to chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases such as atherosclerosis and lupus. In addition to medical research I also teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, specifically on the cell biology of inflammation and immunity. Finally, I am engaged in developing the next generation of super-resolution microscopy analysis methods, with a focus on methods which identify and characterize the molecular interactions between individual proteins within living cells.
