I help highly-motivated people redesign their English communication strategies so they can share their business, passion, and talent with the world in order to create true impact, value and growth, both personally and professionally. Wel. who am I really?'Champagne in a human suit' someone said once. Het Parool called me ‘radically compassionate’, the Volkskrant said that I was a ‘grammar fairy’, Jinek called me ‘the English coach to the stars’, and the de Telegraaf said ‘I was a bouncing ball full of positivity’.(My latest book is called 'You Are the Best Thing That Has Ever Happened to You' for a reason.) I'm originally from Brooklyn, New York and gave my first English lesson in 1987, while working as a refugee volunteer. I was on vacation in Barcelona in 1990 and made out with a Hot Holland Guy.(That one-night stand has now become a one-life stand.) I lived in Prague for a year, started the first English academy for adults there, then trained people to take over and moved to The Netherlands in 1991. Love makes us do crazy things. Crazy good. I had an idea decades ago and left my new job at the most famous language institute ('de nonnen') to follow my dream and start with nothing. Everyone laughed at me when I said I wanted to be an English coach. This job did not exist. But it did. In my heart. Fast forward - I’ve written 4 books, have my own podcast, and coached over clients. Worked on 15 TV shows as an English coach or consultant, have been a guest on 100+ shows, and have high-performing private coaching clients (C-suite level) in 7 different countries. 20% of my clients are native English speakers. I’ve won 2 awards, worked on over 500 songs, hold the world record for the World's Biggest English Lesson (Bravo stage, Lowlands, at the age of 48, wearing glitter boots and a cape #NeverTooLate), coached for 10 movies, and created Communication Nation (the world’s first communication confidence platform, with members in 14 countries so far). I am sharing these numbers merely to show what can happen when the love you have for your idea is greater than the fear you have of judgment.
