Background
About Caitlin Lee
Caitlin Lee, a passionate advocate for people with disabilities, is a seasoned mindfulness practitioner and mentor. Her journey with mindfulness began 25 years ago when she was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, an inherited single-gene retinal disease that causes blindness. The practice of mindfulness and meditation became an essential part of managing the stress of vision loss and thriving in a world that stigmatizes people with disabilities. In 2005, Caitlin completed her 250-hour Yoga Teacher Certification at Willow Street Yoga Center and earned a 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Certification the following year. She began her yoga teaching career in Washington DC, teaching at several yoga studios and federal offices, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Transportation (DOT), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In 2007, Caitlin moved to New York City and began working with private yoga clients. She also fell in love with long-distance running and became a running coach through USA Track & Field. Caitlin went on to work for New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit organization that produces the New York City Marathon. In Caitlin’s role as Director of the NYRR Run Center, she was able to work with athletes, receive more advanced coaching training, and deepen her understanding of mindfulness and movement. In 2022, Caitlin began working with Inward Bound Mindfulness, leading Mindful Movement classes at Teen Retreat, and serving as a mindfulness mentor. Caitlin is deeply committed to using mindfulness practice as a tool for social change and is committed to the work of introducing teens and young adults to the power of contemplative practice in their schools and broader communities. In addition to yoga, running, and meditating, she also enjoys reading, boxing, jump rope, spending as much time as possible outdoors, and letting loose on the dance floor. Caitlin shares her story because she genuinely believes that it can serve people and inspire them to embrace mindfulness in their lives.
