About Caitlin McCarthy

I'm a multi-hyphenate creative with an operations background. As a writer and producer, I have worked in many different forms: theatre, podcasting, screenwriting, new media, fiction; you name it, I've probably done it. As a communications professional, I craft compelling copy that can translate a complex idea or sell an exciting new product. Bottom line: I love stories, and excel at capturing different voices and types of writing. I managed a small brick-and-mortar business for about a decade, and was known as a leader who was responsive and approachable. Seeing myself as a team member enabled me to make nimble decisions that were collaborative and well-reasoned. After years of balancing my marketing skills with everything it takes to keep a small business running (read: being a one-person HR and Operations department), I am looking forward to a new role in communications. I recently completed a certificate in Creative Writing through the Writer's Studio at SFU, and my first published piece is featured in emerge 2022, the Writer's Studio Anthology. During my time there, I gave insightful feedback to fellow writers and was a scrupulous editor for the final anthology. The question I always ask of a piece of work is "why" and "who is the audience?" Zooming out to understand the broader picture helps me get specific, whether it be with a line edit, a story idea, or which emoji to choose. I love to cook and have been known to watch food competition shows. Top Chef is the best.
